Pushing HP5 400 to photograph people at the subway in Lisbon, Portugal

As an amateur film enthusiast, I spent a long time thinking that shooting with low lights was impossible. When I learned about pushing film, I had to try it.

On April 20th, 2024, Saturday night, I spent a few hours on the green metro line, going back and forth between Cais do Sodré and Campo Pequeno, taking portraits of 33 people from 15 different countries. For this, I used my Nikon FM and Ilford HP5 400 (which I pushed 2 stops on development), and here are the results:

In August 2024, I was invited by The Lisbon Frame to exhibit my photos at 8 Marvila — a space renovated and transformed into an emerging experience of culture, commerce, and art.

The exhibition was the first in the space, and lasted for a month. In addition to the satisfaction of seeing a project that began as a personal experiment come to life, the visibility of this project allowed me to photograph — again with film — two of my favorite bands. Soon, in my portfolio.
